Final Grade:

Last Weekend Ocean’s 11 opened finally pushing Harry Potter out of the number one spot at the box office. But is Ocean’s 11 worth the hype? Going into the movie I didn’t expect much. Hearing that it is a remake of a 1960’s Rat Pack movie I wasn’t convinced that Matt Damon and Clooney couldn’t fill those shoes, and being an Anti-Clooney person it made my fear even worse. I mean after all how could Clooney Fill the shoes of Sinatra in setting up a multi-million dollar heist from Las Vegas Casinos? However, sitting through Ocean’s 11 I realized that it wasn’t bad at all. A nice easy flowing plot and well directed. Steven Soderbergh, director of movies such as Erin Brockovich, The Limey and Traffic, manages to pull it off again making an easy to like movie and over all a good flick even for an Anti-Clooney audience such as myself. The only thing I could wish for was a little more out of Julia Roberts, she seemed to be a waste of talent and could have delivered so much more if given the chance. I was impressed with Andy Garcia’s character he played it quite well, I can’t picture any other actor playing the role as well of casino owner as well as he did. Matt Damon played a decent role, we didn’t get anything outstanding out of him nor did you from Brad Pitt; but its hard to stretch everyone to their fullest potential when you have a star studded cast to work with as Soderbergh did. Despite all of that and since I have not seen the original, (since there seems to be only 1 copy of it in ames Iowa) I’m suggesting Oceans 11 goes on your list of movies to view in the future.
